Literature Text

I know you’re frustrated
Because I’m getting old now
I don’t run as fast as I
Used to.

Please don’t hit me
I do have feelings you know.
Inside I’m dying.

I know someday soon
You’ll replace me
Throw me out
Abandon me.

I could see it coming.
After all, it’s been five years
Since you came to the store
Where I lived
And took me home.

As you type
As you cry over a film
As you dance to my music
I grow old.

I’m sorry I can’t be
Reliable anymore.
Thank you
For being patient
With me
All this time

I’m ready
To say
Farewell.
A Persona poem about a computer that is about to be replaced.

A humorously quirky poem with a whimsical persona and a unique point of view, Farewell by PsychicHexo is at once wistful, thoughtful, and sprinkled with wryness.

The poem begins with the persona unclear, speaking to someone unknown. It is only afterwards that we realize it is the computer, speaking to its user without words.

We follow the persona as it goes through its experiences, and because this is first-person limited, we feel along with it all the regret and longing that it exhibits.

I suppose the most powerful part of this poem is the way the deviant conveys the computer's emotions: poignant, sad, but infinitely charming and with just the right amount of light-heartedness that draws us in.
